Panoramic Visualization for Industrial Teleoperation

CHESF

Highlights

  • Real-time SCADA data overlaid on panoramic photography
  • Remote substation inspection without physical access
  • Equipment info panels accessible by clicking any device

The panoramic teleoperation system addresses a key challenge in grid management: allowing control center operators to visually inspect substations during operational events without dispatching field personnel.

High-resolution 360° panoramic photographs are captured of each substation bay during scheduled visits. These images are ingested into the visualization platform and annotated with equipment identifiers linked to the SCADA database. During operations, an operator navigating the panoramic view can click on any visible equipment — a transformer, circuit breaker, or disconnect switch — and receive a real-time pop-up showing the live SCADA readings: voltage, current, MVAR, transformer tap position, and device status (open/closed).

The result is a geospatially-anchored operational picture that combines the spatial awareness of being physically present with the safety and speed of remote access.
