PCTM & Portfolio ALUMAR/ALCOA
Alumar (Alcoa / Rio Tinto)
Highlights
- 23 systems developed for a single industrial partner
- Alcoa Innovation Award — LIMS system
- Augmented reality application for industrial field inspection (HTM)
- 9 interactive e-learning modules for industrial process training
The ALUMAR/ALCOA portfolio represents the largest single-partner engagement in NCA-UFMA’s history. Over the course of the collaboration, 23 distinct computational systems were delivered covering planning, quality management, simulation, augmented reality, and training.
PCTM — Maritime Terminal Planning and Control
The maritime terminal planning system enables scheduling of ship queues, allocation of berths, and coordination of bulk material flows (bauxite, coke, alumina, sodium carbonate, and others). The visual scheduling interface presents a Gantt-style timeline across the 30-day horizon with real-time inventory level monitoring, allowing operators to minimize demurrage charges.
LIMS — Laboratory Information Management System
Winner of the Alcoa Innovation Award, the LIMS system digitized and integrated all laboratory data workflows at the Alumar plant, replacing paper-based sample tracking with an end-to-end digital chain from collection to certification.
HTM — Augmented Reality Heat Exchanger Management
Field technicians inspect heat exchangers using a mobile AR application that overlays tube status maps (functional, blocked, leaking) directly onto the physical equipment through the device camera, and transmits inspection results to the central HTM database in real time.
Power Systems Maneuver Simulation
Interactive simulation of electrical force systems enabling operators to practice fault isolation procedures and load balancing without risk to live infrastructure.
E-Learning Modules (9 modules)
Animation-based 2D interactive learning modules covering: Centrifugal Pumps, Calcination System, Electrolytic Cell, EBTV Chemical Burns, Fall Prevention, Unloading and Sampling, Evaporation, Energy Connection, and industrial safety protocols.
